Researchers at Washington State University are looking for participants for a new study, looking at using smartphone technology to help people abstain from alcohol.




Who can take part?
The Automated Reinforcement Management Systems (ARMS) Phase II study is a 1-year long study with a 12-week treatment period designed to provide a remote behavioral treatment to promote alcohol abstinence.

What happens in the study?
This study involves providing an evidence-based treatment called Contingency Management using smartphone technology that connects to a breathalyzer for remote submission of alcohol breath samples. The Contingency Management intervention consists of providing rewards with monetary value every time a participant is able to submit 3 negative breath alcohol samples per day.
If you decide to take part, you will be sent a finger prick blood test in the post
If the study finds that you’re at risk of developing type 1 diabetes, you will be monitored and given information about what symptoms to look out for to prevent you from becoming seriously unwell
You will also receive information on any new clinical trials or treatments that may delay or prevent the condition from developing
