About the study

About the study

Lactate is a chemical in the brain that is involved in the production of energy. Higher levels of lactate indicate that the brain is not able to perform the processes leading to energy production.

To better understand the role of lactate in ME/CFS, we would like to measure lactate concentrations in healthy people as well as people with ME/CFS.  We will use brain imaging when people are at rest and when their brain is active during a brief period of exposure to a flashing light.

If there is a difference between people with ME/CFS and healthy participants, this could guide the search for biomarkers for ME/CFS and help us find new therapies.

For more information please read our participant information sheet.
