Are you a Native American who has suffered a head injury?

Mayo Clinic and the Native American Community Clinic (NACC) are seeking individuals with a history of traumatic brain injury (TBI) (also known as brain injury, head injury, mild TBI, or concussion) and/or their family members to participate in a research study.

The purpose of this study is to learn about your experience with TBI to assist in developing prevention strategies and improve services and outcomes for Native communities and Tribes in the Great Lakes region.

Who can take part?

You may be eligible to participate if you:


  • Are a Minnesota resident

  • Are at least 18 years old

  • Identify as American Indian/Alaska Native and have a history of TBI diagnosed by a medical provider OR

  • Are a family member or caregiver of someone who meets the criteria above

What's involved?

We will ask you to actively engage with others in a Listening Session structured similarly to a Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) where a community comes together to collectively characterize their shared understanding of a condition - in this case TBI - while being mindful of cultural values, traditions, and spiritual practices.

You will be compensated for time spent participating in this study.
