
Researchers are investigating whether a known medication, combined with behavioural support, can help people reduce their alcohol use and improve their physical health.

Screening visit: A health assessment with the study doctor to confirm you're eligible
8 weekly visits: A weekly injection of either the study medication or a placebo, plus a short session of Take Control — a computer-based programme designed to help reduce alcohol use (around 20 minutes per session)
End-of-treatment visit (week 9): A final health check and questionnaires
Follow-up (week 12): A phone or in-person check-in to see how you're getting on
Between visits, you'll be asked to use a short daily phone app (SEMA) to log your mood and cravings.
All injections are administered by trained study staff.
You may be eligible to take part if you:
Are 18 or over
Are above a healthy weight (overweight or obese)
Are drinking heavily and would like to cut down
Are based in Sydney and able to attend clinic visits at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
Are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
You will be reimbursed for your time with gift vouchers to the equivalent of:
Up to $60 for completing the daily phone app questionnaire
$40 for each of the two follow-up visits ($80 in total)
